Friends and Colleagues,
I need your help in forming a new organization dedicated to improving and expanding lighting education worldwide. The need for this organization was inspired by my recent participation in a PLDA International Education Conference in Milan Italy, where various researchers and educators came together to address how to legitimize lighting as a practice and profession that is sustained by university lighting programs.
This new organization would be exclusively made up of lighting researchers, educators and related academics. This organization would welcome support by other lighting organizations, professionals and institutions, but would essentially be an independent organization governed by its members and committed to advancing university based lighting education worldwide.
Some of the possibilities for this organization include:
  • Facilitating discussions on matters related to lighting research and education
  • Establishing a "Master Plan" for sustaining lighting education through research and funding opportunities
  • Establishing an annual members meeting to discuss current issues, set organizational agendas and celebrate the achievements of members and programs
  • Providing resources and mentorship for establishing lighting research and education programs in universities worldwide
  • Sharing educational materials and techniques uniquely suited for lighting education
  • Promoting and expanding lighting research opportunities and collaboration between universities and institutions
  • Folding together some of the educational efforts of other lighting organizations into one cohesive enterprise

This is an early exploration into forming this organization and I recognize that this is an audacious endeavor, so I welcome the support of those who share a similar vision and wish to help shape this organization in any capacity.

The name for this organization is the Council of Lighting Researchers and Educators (c.l.r.e.).  And its scope and structure will be determined by us.  United, we can be an influential stakeholder in the evolution of lighting as an academic discipline, vocation, practice and industry.

Please fill in the contact form if you are interested in making this organization a reality.

Respectfully,
